Meet three couples as they decide to make a life-long commitment and get married in the face of staunch opposition from their family and friends. From an interfaith couple in Baltimore, to a gay couple in Boston, and an interracial couple from Houston - these people are all striving to show doubtful loved ones how differences in race, religion and sexual preference do not affect their ability to love and be loved. As they announce their engagements and meet the in-laws, emotions run high. Will familial pressure impact their upcoming nuptials, or will love of a potential spouse outweigh love of family? Will they go through with the weddings if family members don't ultimately approve? Against all odds and in the face of bigotry, these couples will aim to prove that their relationship has what it takes to build the foundation for a long lasting marriage.

Three star-crossed couples are ready and waiting to get married, but unfortunately, all face opposition from their families. Over the next four weeks, the couples will work with a relationship expert to help find common ground with their parents who have been dead-set against their unions from the start. By the end of this social experiment, if they cannot get their families’ approval, each couple will have to decide whether to get married, or fulfill their parents’ wishes, and break up.
The couples confront their skeptical parents and shock them with plans to get married in a matter of weeks. Relationship expert, Pastor Calvin Roberson, meets the couples' parents for the first time and hears their concerns about their child's choice of partner, resulting in verbal fireworks and hurt feelings.
Blair and Chris confront Blair’s head-strong mother about her apparent prejudice leading to a shocking revelation about her own husband; Willi and Cameron face even greater resistance from their respective families over religion; and Kareem’s mother rejects his dream of adopting Kee Kee’s son.
The couples get together socially and press each other on their progress. Willi finally gets enough courage to ask Cameron for what she really wants, but doesn’t get the answer she was hoping for. All of the families sit down with Cal in one room for an explosive session with everyone in each other’s business. Are our couples one step closer to their happy ending or are they opening a Pandora’s Box of new issues.
When the parents are tasked with figuring out what it will take for them to give their blessing, Michael and Leah decide to confront Cameron about his unwillingness to convert. Kelly pushes boundaries and interrogates Chris only to be met with resistance. While Marvaline goes to extreme measures to know whether Kareem can be trusted, causing him to question whether his relationship with Kee Kee is worth the trouble.
Cal instructs the couples to bring their families together by hosting a dinner with both sets of parents. But the meals all end up leaving a bad taste in their mouths: Blair mistakenly thinks Korean BBQ might help Kelly understand Chris better, Willi and Cameron don’t want to talk about kids over dinner, and Kee Kee and Kareem’s moms unite in their disapproval.
Tensions mount after Cal reveals his surprising plan for the couples to go on their dream dates. This sets off fireworks between both the couples and their parents who are defiant in their belief that their kids are not ready for marriage. Willi’s mom confronts Cameron over his Christian beliefs, Kareem’s attempts at wooing Marvaline fall flat, and Chris confronts Kelly over a horrific text she sent her daughter.
In a final effort to gain their parent’s approval for marriage, the couples confront their families one last time before Commitment Day. Blair questions if she even wants to continue a relationship with her mom, Kelly. Willi and Cameron meet with her family rabbi to discuss the challenges of Cameron converting to Judaism and share the dramatic news with Willi’s parents. Meanwhile, Marvaline’s mounting disapproval of Kee Kee and Kareem’s marriage plans leads to even greater turmoil in the couple’s tumultuous relationship, leading to a blowout fight.
It’s Commitment Day and the couples have their final sit-down with Cal to announce their decision whether to get married or go their separate ways. Cameron and Willi throw a party to announce their engagement but are unsure whether Willi’s family will finally support their decision. Meanwhile, Kelly makes one last ditch effort to change Blair’s mind about getting married causing Blair to question if her mother will show up to her wedding. After revealing a huge secret, Kareem and Keekee realize the pressure of their family and the process may have driven them apart.
